Valley Radiotherapy Associates Medical Group and Vantage Oncology Announces Joint Venture to Form Glendale Radiation Therapy Center

Vantage Oncology to Implement Facility and Technology Upgrades to Cancer Center

June 20, 2008

GLENDALE, CA. (June 20, 2008) – In its continued efforts to provide innovative radiation therapy treatment to Glendale cancer patients, Valley Radiotherapy Associates Medical Group, Inc. (VRA) has announced a new partnership with Vantage Oncology, a Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based developer and operator of state-of-the-art radiation oncology centers, to form Vantage Oncology Glendale Radiation Therapy Center. The center will be located on the campus of Glendale Memorial Hospital in the Cancer Center building. Vantage Oncology will provide facility and technology upgrades to the cancer center. The remodeled cancer center is scheduled to be completed in July of 2008.

The renovated Glendale Radiation Therapy Center will feature a remodeled front office and have access to a new patient resource area within the main waiting room. The patient resource center will allow patients and their loved ones a quiet, private place to research their cancer and treatment options on the Internet, and have access to the latest educational materials from the American Cancer Society. Two new consultation rooms will be created for the patients to privately meet with their physician and discuss treatment options. The clinical area will include a dedicated nursing station with a full time registered nurse. The dressing area will have lockers available for patients to leave their belongings as well as an adjacent waiting area to provide privacy for patients preparing for their treatment and/or exam.

“We are looking forward to this new joint venture with Vantage Oncology because it provides us with an outstanding solution to our radiation oncology needs in the Glendale community by bringing capital and extensive management experience,” said Leslie Botnick, M.D. of VRA. “This partnership demonstrates our unwavering commitment towards enhancing our radiation oncology program and ensures that our served communities will have access to the most precise and sophisticated cancer treatments available.”

The Glendale Radiation Therapy Center is equipped with a Varian Clinac® 21EX linear accelerator, delivering Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT). In conjunction with Glendale Memorial Hospital, the center will also provide High-Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy. “New technologies such as IMRT help to deliver higher doses of radiation with fewer complications and side effects,” said Linas Kazlauskas, M.D., Medical Director of Glendale Radiation Therapy Center. “With the multi-disciplinary approach to treating malignancies today, our technology will undoubtedly result in optimal results for the patient.”

IMRT is an advanced clinical treatment option for precisely targeting the tumor with greater doses of radiation, sparing critical normal tissues, providing for better outcomes and fewer side effects for patients. As a result, patients are exposed to less radiation overall, thereby helping to preserve healthy tissue and decreasing potential side effects. HDR Brachytherapy allows the delivery of a high dose of radiation to a small area from within the body tissues, while sparing the surrounding normal tissue.

“The joint venture between Valley Radiotherapy Associates and Vantage Oncology will provide patients of Glendale with access to state-of-the-art diagnostic and radiation therapy services,” said Michael T. Fiore, CEO of Vantage Oncology. “In combination with the expertise of the physicians and clinical staff, I am confident that our team of experts can effectively educate and treat the patients who have entrusted us with their health.”
